Job summary

Iowa City Community School District Horn Elementary - University Heights, Iowa is seeking an Elementary Supervisory Paraeducator for 2 hours per day to support students under the supervision of school staff. Immediate start date and collaboration with teachers, administrators, and families are essential.

The role emphasizes assisting with academic, social, emotional, and physical needs, supervising during recess and lunch, and helping with materials and daily classroom routines.

Qualifications

• AA degree or BA degree, or Para certification.
• Previous experience working with children preferred but not required.
• Post-secondary coursework in educational field preferred but not required.
• Initiative to be a self-starter.
• Intuitive to the needs of the student.
• Ability to work well with classroom teacher, support staff, administrators, AEA and parents of student as part of an educational team.
• Ability to be flexible in assignments given.
• Ability to use good judgment when unexpected problems arise.
• Ability to use office equipment.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students during recess by monitoring safety and notifying staff of problems.
• Supervise lunch with seating, behavior and dismissal and assist lunch staff.
• Assist with basic student health concerns and medicine distribution.
• Assist with daily lunch count and ordering of lunches from Food Service.
• Assist with daily student absences and calls to families.
• Assist classroom teachers in preparing materials for instruction.
• Assists in media center when needed.
• Respects confidentiality of student records.
• Conform to expectations within the negotiated agreement for Paraeducators.
• Other duties as assigned.
