Job summary

Duluth Public Schools is seeking a Nutrition Services Assistant at Congdon Elementary School to support meal preparation and service under the Site Manager and cooks. This part-time role (15 hrs per week, Monday–Friday) starts at $16.31 per hour and involves setting up meals, maintaining sanitary conditions, and helping track meals and food records using the cash register and food service computer.

Qualifications

• Physical ability to handle large quantities of food.
• Freedom from contagious disease.
• Education/Experience equivalency may be accepted by the Food Service Department.
• Previous experience in the preparation, handling and servicing of large quantities of food is desirable.
• Knowledge of methods for preparing, cooking and serving foods in large quantities.
• Knowledge of simple record keeping and accounting.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods.
• Knowledge of kitchen utensils and their uses.
• Ability to get along with and to handle children.
• Ability to maintain harmonious relations with co-workers and other school personnel.
• Ability to read and write and to make simple arithmetic calculations.
• Basic computer operations.

Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision of the Site Manager and cooks coordinating meal preparation.
• Assist in the setup for meals and maintain sanitary conditions in preparation and serving areas.
• Assist the Site Manager in tracking meals and food records using the cash register and food service computer.
