Position Overview

The City of Falls Church Building Safety Division is seeking a part-time Combination Plan Reviewer-Inspector with electrical expertise. The successful candidate will review electrical plans and perform combination construction inspections, supporting the Building Official in enforcing the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.

Responsibilities

1. Assist the Building Official in enforcing relevant codes and regulations.
2. Review electrical plans and assist with other commercial plan reviews.
3. Conduct residential inspections for one- and two-family dwellings.
4. Perform damage assessments and safety inspections of structures.
5. Inspect existing buildings based on complaints.
6. Coordinate inspections with other city departments and agencies.
7. Issue warnings, violation notices, and stop-work orders.
8. Respond to inquiries from citizens, contractors, and builders.
9. Document inspections and reviews according to division policies.
10. Participate in meetings, training, and testify in court when necessary.
11. Maintain necessary certifications and attend ongoing training.
12. Perform additional tasks as required.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Certification as a code inspector or plan reviewer by the Commonwealth of Virginia or ICC.
3. Minimum of four years’ experience in construction or inspection fields.
4. Ability to interpret plans accurately and communicate effectively.
5. Strong enforcement skills with tact and firmness.
6. Certifications in plans examination and inspection for electrical and other trades.
7. Equivalent training and experience may be considered.

Work Details

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with some flexibility. This is a part-time position (<20 hours/week).

Salary & Benefits: $60/hour. No fringe benefits included.
