Job summary

Sheltering Arms seeks a Teacher Aide to support a teaching team caring for infants to Pre-K. You will assist with daily routines, supervise children, keep areas clean, and help with activities under the Lead Teacher’s guidance.

You will promote healthy habits, engage children in learning, provide positive guidance, and build strong relationships with families while upholding safety and center standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED with 2+ years of Early Childhood Education experience preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of ECE best practices and child development.
• Ability to work with diverse families and children.

Responsibilities

• Promote healthy eating by eating with children.
• Share routine duties with staff (supervision on playground, toileting, cleanup).
• Keep room and areas neat and clean.
• Interact with children in activities they supervise.
• Perform hand washing and sanitizing procedures.
• Participate in child/teacher initiatives.
• Use materials to promote physical development.
• Implement planned activities.
• Engage children in outdoor learning activities.
• Prepare materials in advance for activities.
• Follow Active Supervision policies for safety.
• Facilitate hands-on activities to develop self-esteem and social skills.
• Demonstrate awareness of cultural diversity in interactions.
• Use positive guidance techniques.
• Provide access to creative/expressive activities.
• Follow routines and smooth transitions.
• Encourage independence in decision making and self-care.
• Greet children on arrival and departure.
• Show affection and attention daily.
• Help children problem solve by talking about feelings.
• Work with children with special needs and families.
• Greet parents and visitors; encourage parental participation.
• Attend staff meetings and training.
• Share ideas with staff and promote the agency's objectives.
• Report absences to Center Director; maintain attendance.
• Adhere to center policies on breaks and clocking in/out.
• Demonstrate proficiency and willingness to learn.
• Keep knowledge of ECE trends and standards.
• Work independently with minimal guidance.
• Understand licensing, NAEYC, Quality Rated, Head Start.
