Job summary

Franklin School in Jersey City is seeking a part-time Debate Coach to lead its high school debate team of about 20–25 students. You will plan and run weekly practices, prepare students for competitions, and supervise the team at all five tournaments during the season.

The ideal candidate has coaching or mentoring experience with teens, strong organizational and communication skills, and a commitment for the full season from September 2026 to May 2027.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching, teaching, or advising high-school-age students.
• Experience with competitive debate preferred but not required for strong coaching.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Able to commit September 2026–May 2027, with weekly after school practice and all five Saturday competitions.
• Background check and Franklin School clearances completed.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead weekly practice 3:30–4:30 PM.
• Attend five competitions, full-day Saturday commitments 6:30 AM–6:30 PM.
• Coordinate practice plans with Faculty Advisor and Assistant Coach.
• Manage roster, squads, and schedule communications with families.
• Register tournaments and arrange transportation and chaperones.
• Uphold norms of conduct, sportsmanship and academic integrity.
• Provide growth feedback to debaters over the season.
• Collaborate with Director of Student Life on culture and integration.
• Report incidents promptly to the Director of Student Life.
