Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is seeking a part-time Crisis Counselor to support patients in the emergency department during mental health, behavioral health, or substance use crises.

The role includes conducting clinical assessments, maintaining HIPAA-compliant documentation, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team. Flexible Saturdays and an additional day per week are required, with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mental/behavioral health required.
• Master's degree in mental/behavioral health preferred.
• Background check clearance required.
• IM-CATS training and credentialing exam completed.
• Licensure (LSW/LCSW, LPC/LCPC, CADC) preferred.
• Minimum 1 year experience in mental/behavioral health.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments to determine interventions and discharge plans.
• Develop familiarity with local resources for diverse patient needs.
• Ensure HIPAA compliance and accurate documentation.
• Maintain documentation in Electronic Health Records.
• Coordinate care within multidisciplinary teams to support patient safety.
