Job summary

Pitt County Government is seeking a county attorney to provide legal counsel and representation to County departments and boards. The role entails appearances in court and before regulatory bodies, drafting ordinances and contracts, and advising officials on legal liabilities.

The attorney will perform legal research, prepare opinions, monitor legislation, and may serve as a back-up to the County Attorney. Part‑time status may be considered depending on staffing needs.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of law.
• Licensed to practice law in the State of North Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal counsel and representation to County departments and boards.
• Represents the County in litigation and before regulatory agencies.
• Drafts and reviews contracts, ordinances, resolutions, interlocal agreements, and other legal documents.
• Conducts legal research and prepares legal opinions.
• Advises department officials on legal responsibilities and liabilities.
• Attends various County board meetings and monitors legislative activity.
• Identifies training and educational needs and conducts seminars as needed.
• Back-up for the County Attorney.
