Job summary

Lone Star College-Creekside Center is seeking a Part-Time Science Lab Coordinator II to support and manage biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, and physics labs. This role collaborates with faculty to schedule labs, maintains equipment and safety standards, and monitors budgets and inventory to ensure smooth operations.

The position requires a high school diploma with 5+ years of related experience; a preferred Associate’s degree and strong computer skills are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Dispose of regulated and biohazardous materials properly.

  • Supervise student workers in labs.
  • Maintain vendor and inter-department relationships.

Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Part-Time Science Lab Coordinator II supports and manageslaboratory materials, supplies, equipment, and laboratoryexperiences. This is accomplished through close coordination withthe professors' lectures and a professional knowledge of thesciences. Primarily performs coordination duties characterized byfacilitating the harmonious working of peers or colleagues towardthe same end. Coordinators do not generally directly supervisestaff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assists manager and faculty to create biology, chemistry,environmental science, geology, and physics laboratoryschedules
  2. Maintains inventory and quality assurance of all science labitems, including cataloguing and labeling of all lab materials
  3. Tracks and coordinates budget expenditures
  4. Prepares requisitions for the timely arrival of all lab-relatedmaterials under the direction of the manager
  5. Directs and monitors laboratory safety protocols
  6. Monitors regulated and bio-hazardous materials; directs theproper disposal of such materials
  7. Communicates with instructors regarding labs
  8. Analyzes and improves procedures and practices
  9. Assists manager in developing hygiene plan, maintaining Rightto Know Centers, and MSDS
  10. Keeps current with new technologies and safety regulations
  11. Supervises student workers in laboratory preparations
  12. Maintains professional working relationships, both within theDistrict and with outside vendors
  13. Networks with individuals in other divisions anddepartments
  14. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties asassigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and/or experience with infection control policies andprocedures and safety regulations (EPA, OSHA)
  • Proven astute and broad knowledge of the sciences and relatedsafety protocols for the successful handling of day-to-dayoperations
  • Strong skills in the use of microcomputers and related wordprocessing, spreadsheet, and database software
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimuminstruction and also cooperatively as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to provide dynamic and proactiveeducational leadership
  • Proven effectiveness in allocating and managing resources
  • Physically capable of some heavy lifting and moving, someclimbing, and moving rapidly through the lab rooms
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate power equipment anddetermine equipment usage
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to workcollaboratively
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the comprehensivecommunity college
  • Demonstrated high-level communication and computer skills

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed tocarry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma and at least 5 years of related experience,or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree
Salary

Hourly Pay Rate is $20.70.
