Job summary

Ancestry is seeking a part-time contractor Content Writer to join the Contextual Content team. You will work with the Editor and Program Manager to complete writing assignments, researching historical records and producing descriptions, stories, and blog posts that reflect Ancestry’s standards.

The ideal candidate has Jewish history and Holocaust genealogy experience, strong writing and editing skills, and the ability to handle sensitive topics; you will meet deadlines and maintain tone

Qualifications

• Degree in history, English, journalism, or related field or equivalent professional writing experience.
• Experience writing about historical events.
• Experience writing about sensitive topics.
• Background in area studies (African American, Latin American, Native American, Asian American, American, British, French, European, or Australian studies).
• Excellent writing/editing and communication skills.
• Ability to interpret guidelines and adhere to a style guide.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Editor and Program Manager to revise and complete writing assignments.
• Conduct in-depth historical research to support assignments.
• Write content for record descriptions, narrative stories from historical records, and blog posts.
• Ensure tone, quality, and adherence to guidelines across all outputs.
• Ensure presented facts are supported by thorough research.
• Meet all writing deadlines and provide status updates as requested.
