Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a positive, outgoing Communications and Digital Content Assistant to support photography, videography, video editing, graphic design, and social media content creation for the Division of Community Engagement and the Mary and Frances Youth Center.

The role requires in-office and on-site work at community locations, including the VCU HealthHub and Mary and Frances Youth Center.

Responsibilities

  • Photography & Videography: Capture photos and videos of community engagement activities and events.
  • Video Editing: Edit short-form videos using Adobe Premiere for social media and newsletters.
  • Graphic Design: Design marketing materials using Canva templates for brand consistency.
  • Social Media Management: Create and schedule content for social platforms.
  • Content Creation: Develop engaging digital content for social media, newsletters, and web.
  • On-Site Engagement: Interact professionally with community members and staff while documenting events.
  • Administrative Support: Organize digital assets and update content.

Position Summary & Role Overview

The Division ofCommunity Engagement is seeking a positive, outgoing, and creative hourly or student worker to support our communication and digitalcontent needs. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with and around people and community members and has a passion for digital storytelling. The Communications and Digital ContentAssistant will assist in capturing and sharing the impact of VCU’s community engagement efforts through photography, videography, video editing, graphic design, and social media contentcreation.

This position requires the ability to work both in-office and on-site at our community-based locations, including the VCU HealthHub at 25th and, primarily, the Mary and Frances YouthCenter.

Typical Duties & Responsibilities
  • Photography & Videography: Capture compelling photos andvideos of community engagement activities, events, andprograms.
  • Video Editing: Edit short-form videos using Adobe Premiere forsocial media, newsletters, and promotional use.
  • Graphic Design: Design marketing materials using Canvatemplates to maintain brand consistency.
  • Social Media Management: Assist in creating and schedulingcontent for social media platforms, ensuring engaging and relevantposts.
  • Content Creation: Assist in developing engaging digital contentfor social media, newsletters, and web platforms.
  • On-Site Engagement: Interact professionally with communitymembers, students, and staff while documenting events.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with organizing digital assets,updating content, and other communications tasks.
Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of VCU policies and procedures related tocommunication
  • Previous experience working with activities related tocommunity engagement and community-based activities
  • Comfortable and confident working with community members invarious settings.
  • Willing and comfortable capturing photographs and videos ofpeople and community members in an engaging and respectfulway.
  • Experience in photography, videography, and video editing usingAdobe Creative Suite..
  • Strong design skills with familiarity in Canva.
  • Experience managing social media content (Instagram, Facebook,Linkedin, etc.).
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to balancemultiple projects.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and creative with strongcommunication skills.
Salary Range

Up to $20 hourly
