Job summary

OSU Rec Sports is seeking a part-time Climbing and Challenge Course Student Specialist for Recreational Sports at Oregon State University. The role focuses on issuing rental equipment, belay instruction, and supervising gym safety while supporting adventure programs and workshops.

The position emphasizes safety, customer service, and maintenance tasks, with duties including workshops, belay for rentals, and routine facility upkeep. Start date: ASAP.

Qualifications

• First Aid/CPR/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications required before employment and provided by the department.
• Availability for a minimum of 6–8 hours per week during Climbing Center hours.
• PCIA Climbing Wall Instructor Certification required before employment begins.
• Challenge Course Low and High Elements training within first two terms.

Responsibilities

• Teach belay skills checks and gym orientation sessions.
• Instruct climbing skills workshops.
• Serve as belayer and assist in operations during events and rentals.
• Oversee safety techniques during open recreation.
• Change and set climbing routes on a schedule.
• Perform maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.
• Navigate the climber check-in system; provide First Aid/CPR as needed.
• Ensure welcoming, inclusive environment for climbers and staff.
