Athens-Clarke County is seeking a part-time Vehicle Operator to operate mainline buses and specialized vans, pick up and drop off passengers, collect fares, and provide friendly customer service along prescribed routes. The role is safety sensitive and requires a CDL with Passenger Endorsement.

SAFETY SENSITIVE: CDL - Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.
The purpose of this job is to operate a mainline bus or specialized van. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: picking up and dropping off passengers, collecting fares, operating a vehicle along prescribed routes, transporting paratransit/demand response passengers, providing good customer service, and performing additional tasks as assigned.
WORK SCHEDULE: Flexible Schedule / Some Weekend Work Required, Up to 28 hours a week
May be required to work on religious holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy.
This position is designated as an emergency position that requires your attendance at work under all types of emergency conditions. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager.
High school diploma or equivalent required, with one year of experience in the operation of a mainline bus and/or specialized van preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Experience working with the elderly or disabled is also preferred.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must possess a CDL with Passenger Endorsement.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including mainline buses and specialized vans, wheelchair lifts, electronic fareboxes, electronic destination signs, and safety and warning equipment (e.g., reflecting triangles, flares, etc.). Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: walking, standing, bending, stooping, fingering, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, and hearing. Requires sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those of medium work. Must successfully pass a DOT physical examination for this type of work.

Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes while operating a mainline bus, a specialized van, wheelchair lifts, electronic fareboxes, electronic destination signs, safety equipment and computers. Requires the ability to lift, push, bend and pull objects or materials using body parts as the position necessitates.
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as a mainline bus, specialized vans, electronic fareboxes, wheelchair lifts, electronic destination signs, safety equipment and computers, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress in daily work activities and considerable stress when confronted with an emergency.
Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone and two-way radio.
