Job summary

The City of O'Fallon, IL is seeking a Part-time Circulation Assistant to support daily library operations and provide friendly, knowledgeable service to patrons. You will check out items, assist with holds, and help patrons locate materials while contributing to a positive library experience.

Strong communication and multitasking abilities are essential, along with comfort using library software. Hours include daytime, evenings, and some weekends, with an average of 25 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Some college preferred.
• Ability to communicate well with others.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work while exceeding the needs of library patrons.
• Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
• Ability and desire to work as part of a team.
• Ability to learn and navigate various pieces of software and online tools.
• Technological proficiency including the ability to explain basic computer skills and online resources to patrons.
• Ability to work regularly scheduled shifts (including daytime, evening, and weekend hour) and flexibility to work extra hours as needed.
• Regular and predictable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Provides outstanding customer service in person, via phone, and via email.
• Checks out items, places holds, and performs other circulation services for patrons.
• Processes library card applications and orients patrons to library services.
• Assists patrons in finding items and answering general library questions.
• Assists with shelving and processing returns as needed.
• Assists with scanning, faxing, and copying.
• Assists colleagues with special events and other projects as assigned.
• May have scheduled hours and/or fill in as needed in the Adult Services department.
