Cashier

Job Overview:

Provides prompt and friendly service to customers and assists them when necessary. Operates a cash register and performs all related duties.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

1. Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions, treating customers as the most important people in the store.
2. Greets customers with a smile in a friendly manner, whether in their designated department or elsewhere in the store.
3. Operates the cash register accurately, scans all products, and processes transactions including coupons, food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks, cash, checks, EFT transactions, in-store charges, discounts, and issues receipts and coupons.
4. Organizes merchandise in carts neatly and assists courtesy personnel as needed.
5. Addresses customer questions and concerns and follows up with appropriate personnel.
6. Follows local, state, and company policies regarding the sale of tobacco and liquor, and complies with regulations related to WIC and food stamps.
7. Knows product values, lookup numbers, department numbers, and features of items for which money is received.
8. Stocks, faces, and rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, understands shelf tags, and knows the location of items in the store and back room; assists customers in locating items.
9. Reviews weekly store ads for price changes and sale items.
10. Maintains the cleanliness of the register area, adheres to '5S' standards, ensures supplies are available, and helps maintain the store's appearance.

Job Requirements:

1. Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and deal with concrete variables.
2. Ability to perform arithmetic involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
3. Understanding and following verbal or demonstrated instructions; capable of writing identifying information; requesting supplies verbally or in writing.
4. Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with depth perception and a full field of view.
5. Ability to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
6. Good judgment is essential, especially when supervision is not immediately available.
