Job summary

Tharp Consulting in Pontiac, MI is seeking a friendly front-end cashier to assist customers, operate the register, and ensure speedy, accurate checkout experiences.

You will handle multiple payment types, balance cash at the register, stock and organize the checkout area, and uphold safety and cleanliness standards while delivering courteous service to every shopper.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of retail or related experience preferred.
• Strong verbal communication, customer service, and organizational skills.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customer purchases, including a variety of grocery products.
• Process payments via cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, and coupons accurately.
• Weigh, bag, and ensure proper handling of customer items.
• Understand and operate check-stand equipment efficiently.
• Perform front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand and reporting pricing errors.
• Communicate store programs, specials, and coupons to customers, modeling high service standards.
• Ensure compliance with security, cash handling, and product handling policies.
• Maintain a clean, stocked, and safe department environment.
• Assist with stocking and follow safety, food safety, and sanitation guidelines.
• Perform additional tasks across departments as needed.
