Job Overview:

Provides prompt and friendly service to customers and assists them when necessary. Operates a cash register and performs all related duties.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

1. Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
2. Greets customers in a friendly manner, whether in their designated department or elsewhere in the store.
3. Operates cash register accurately, scans all products, redeems coupons, processes transactions, and issues receipts and coupons.
4. Organizes merchandise in carts and assists courtesy personnel as needed.
5. Answers customer questions and concerns, following up with appropriate personnel.
6. Follows local, state, and company policies on sales of tobacco and liquor, and complies with guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps.
7. Knows item values, lookup numbers, department numbers, and features of items for which money is received.
8. Stocks, faces, and rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, understands shelf tags, and knows store and back room locations.
9. Reviews weekly store ads for price changes and sale items.
10. Keeps the register area clean, adheres to “5S” standards, maintains supplies, and helps keep the store appearance orderly.

Job Requirements:

1. Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and deal with a few concrete variables.
2. Ability to perform arithmetic involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
3. Ability to understand and follow instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies verbally or in writing.
4. Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with depth perception and a broad field of vision.
5. Flexibility to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
6. Good judgment, especially when supervision is not immediately available.
