Job Overview:
Provides prompt and friendly service to customers and assists them when necessary. Operates a cash register and performs all related duties.
Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
- Greets customers in a friendly manner, whether in their designated department or elsewhere in the store.
- Operates cash register accurately, scans all products, redeems coupons, processes transactions, and issues receipts and coupons.
- Organizes merchandise in carts and assists courtesy personnel as needed.
- Answers customer questions and concerns, following up with appropriate personnel.
- Follows local, state, and company policies on sales of tobacco and liquor, and complies with guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps.
- Knows item values, lookup numbers, department numbers, and features of items for which money is received.
- Stocks, faces, and rotates merchandise, cleans shelves, understands shelf tags, and knows store and back room locations.
- Reviews weekly store ads for price changes and sale items.
- Keeps the register area clean, adheres to “5S” standards, maintains supplies, and helps keep the store appearance orderly.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and deal with a few concrete variables.
- Ability to perform arithmetic involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies verbally or in writing.
- Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with depth perception and a broad field of vision.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Good judgment, especially when supervision is not immediately available.
