Job Description

Position Summary:

This role is responsible for operating the cash register and electronic scanner to itemize and total customers' purchases, receive payment, and assist in bagging purchases while providing courteous customer service.

Here’s What You’ll Do

• Operate cash register and scanner to process customer purchases, handling products like groceries, frozen foods, dairy, produce, poultry, fish, and meats.
• Process transactions including cash, checks, credit cards, food stamps, WIC, loyalty cards, gift certificates, rain checks, voids, and coupons accurately per company policies.
• Weigh and carefully bag customer purchases.
• Use check-stand equipment (register, scanner, scale, belts) efficiently.
• Manage front-end duties such as merchandising check-stand items (newspapers, candy, etc.).
• Ensure correct use of product IDs and report pricing or signage errors.
• Maintain knowledge of store programs and product locations.
• Communicate store programs, in-store specials, and coupons to customers, modeling high service standards.
• Follow policies on security, cash handling, product handling, and sale of alcohol and tobacco.
• Keep the department clean, stocked, and compliant with safety and sanitation standards.
• Assist with stocking as needed.
• Adhere to PPE, safety, food safety, cleaning, and guest experience guidelines.
• Perform additional tasks based on customer needs.

Here’s What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• One year of retail or related experience preferred.
• Good verbal communication skills and ability to interact politely with customers.
• Strong customer service and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift/move up to 30 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. Stand and walk for extended periods, and bend, stoop, twist often. Work environment varies in temperature and noise levels. Travel requirements vary.
