Job summary

University of California - San Diego Medical Centers’ RMAS is seeking a part-time research assistant to design experiments, perform tissue culture, irradiation of cells, and data analysis under supervision. The role involves hands-on molecular biology techniques, animal handling, and maintaining safety and compliance in a shared lab environment.

Responsibilities include record-keeping, literature research, protocol troubleshooting, and collaboration across departments to advance health outcomes

Qualifications

• Theoretical knowledge in molecular biology/biochemistry typically via a Bachelor's degree.
• Experience with tissue culture including freezing, thawing, counting cells, and splitting cultures.
• Experience operating lab equipment such as microscopes and centrifuges.
• Experience with fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) machines.
• Experience handling small lab animals under approved procedures.
• Ability to read and follow experimental protocols and maintain accurate records.
• Experience with MS Office for data entry and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Design experiments and record data for research projects.
• Perform tissue culture, immunologic assays, and basic molecular biology techniques.
• Work with animal studies, irradiation of cells and tissues, and histology.
• Maintain safety, waste disposal, and equipment maintenance.
