Job summary

Position Summary:

Goshen College is hiring part-time Campus Safety Officers to provide patrol coverage and fill open shifts across campus. Officers are to be a visible presence on campus, and the role is built around service and “Community Care-taking.” Some of the duties performed are assisting students, staff, faculty, and visitors, securing buildings, responding to incidents, and documenting what happens. Shifts may bevariable lengths up to 12 hours and include evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Pay is $15.25/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of campus buildings, grounds, and parking areas
• Lock, unlock, and secure buildings on schedule; verify doors and access points
• Respond to calls for service, alarms, medical incidents, and emergencies, and request police, fire, or EMS support as needed
• Write clear, accurate, and timely incident reports and shift activity logs
• Assist community members with escorts, lockouts, and general questions
• Enforce parking and campus policies
• Monitor camera, alarm, and access control systems and report equipment problems
• Provide coverage, access control, and traffic support for campus events as assigned
• Maintain communication with on-duty staff and follow department protocols

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record
• Basic computer skills, including email and web-based reporting
• Ability to write clear, factual reports
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and use sound judgment with limited supervision
• Ability to interact effectively with a diverse college community
• Successful completion of a background check

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in security, law enforcement, military, corrections, EMS, healthcare, education, or customer-facing service work
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain one
• Experience with conflict resolution
• Familiarity with higher education or residential communities
• Conversational Spanish

Physical Requirements:

Officers must be able to walk and stand for extended periods, patrol outdoors in all weather, climb stairs, lift and carry up to 40 pounds, and move quickly to respond to campus emergencies.
