Job summary

Central Oregon Community College seeks a Broadside Reporter for a student position to research, write, edit, and promote news content for The Broadside’s website and social channels. You will gather information through interviews with students, staff, and local officials and shape stories for publication on campus and in print editions.

The role requires strong AP Style writing, reliability, and the ability to manage time and multiple assignments.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the field of journalism, especially online news environments.
• Write and self-edit using AP Style conventions.
• Experience with Google Sheets for content planning.
• Familiar with website content management systems.
• Experience with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat).

Responsibilities

• Report and write two stories per week for The Broadside.
• Conduct interviews with students, staff, faculty, local officials and public spokespeople.
• Select and pursue stories for Bend, Redmond, La Pine and Madras audiences.
• Be an advocate for The Broadside on and off campus with professional conduct.
• Perform other duties to support the publication's objectives.
