Job summary

The University of Tennessee at Martin Somerville Center is hiring a part-time custodian, maintenance and security associate (25 hours per week). The role covers cleaning, facilities upkeep, event setup, and basic IT support as needed.

Responsibilities include maintaining inventory, operating maintenance equipment, and ensuring safety. A valid driver’s license and a good attendance record are required; salary starts at $14.25 per hour, with compensation commensurate with education and experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Six months of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to operate maintenance equipment.
• Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions.
• Ability to make routine decisions independently.
• Ability to use cleaning equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Ability to take direction and sustain long periods of light to moderate heavy physical activity.
• Must possess working knowledge of light-duty maintenance issues (ex. changing light bulbs, painting, etc.).
• Must have a good work and attendance record.

Responsibilities

• Performing various custodial duties to maintain a clean and safe environment for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
• Managing supplies, including receiving, stocking, and maintaining inventory.
• Setting up and taking down for special events.
• Cleaning floors, windows, walls, and other assigned areas.
• Managing trash control and emptying trash containers.
• Performing groundskeeping and building maintenance duties.
• Operating maintenance equipment such as mowers.
• Securing and unlocking the center and providing safety support
• Reporting safety concerns to the immediate supervisor.
• Completing work orders.
• Assist with basic technology support and serve as IT support facilitator, as needed.
• Performs other duties as directed.
