Job summary

UMass Amherst Departmental Assistant (Campus Center Warehouse) is a part-time, onsite role in Amherst within the Campus Center/Student Union. You will perform tasks involved in receipt, storage, and transfer of goods, maintain inventories, and adjust orders as needed.

The position requires lifting up to 75 lbs repeatedly, standing for hours, and working in walk-in freezers or coolers. You will follow written and oral instructions, maintain accurate records, and operate within established

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Massachusetts Class D driver's license.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to make arithmetical computations with speed and accuracy.
• Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the area.
• Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and symbols.
• Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language.
• Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships.
• Ability to keep accurate records.
• Knowledge of standard storekeeping methods and practices for receipt, storage, issuance and delivery of perishable goods.
• Must have the physical stamina and endurance for physical labor in adverse weather; lift up to 75 lbs; stand for hours; and work in walk-in freezer/cooler.

Responsibilities

• Unpacks and examines incoming goods to verify quality, quantity and condition; counts, weighs or sorts items.
• Stores goods, supplies and equipment in appropriate storage containers.
• Marks identifying codes or letters on articles; attaches tags for identification.
• Issues supplies, materials and equipment to users per procedures.
• Maintains records and logs of items received, issued and shipped.
• Takes physical inventory to determine on-hand amounts and reconcile stock.
• Performs related duties such as loading/unloading items; maintaining stockroom appearance.
• Operates motor vehicle to make campus deliveries.
