Job summary

Teacher Tutors is hiring a part-time Calculus Tutor to work in Livingston, NJ and surrounding areas. This in-person role focuses on high school precalculus, AP Calculus AB/BC, and college calculus with flexible afternoon/evening hours.

You'll work one-on-one with motivated students, using varied teaching approaches to help them master limits, derivatives, integrals, and multivariable topics as needed. Compensation is hourly with W-2 or 1099 options.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education (Applied Mathematics also qualifies).
• Master's or PhD candidates are welcome.
• Demonstrated mastery of single-variable calculus at AP and college introductory level, with ability to scale to multivariable calculus.
• Tutoring, TA, or classroom teaching experience with high school or college students.
• Working familiarity with AP Calculus AB and BC course framework, including FRQs and MCQs, calculator and non-calculator sections, and common traps.
• Strong communication skills and patience working with frustrated or anxious students.
• Availability for afternoon, evening, or weekend hours, with extra capacity around AP exam season.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-on-one tutoring sessions tailored to each student's course, instructor's expectations, and learning goals.
• Plan lessons and prepare materials (problem sets, derivative and integral practice, AP-style FRQs and drills, test-prep schedules).
• Build students' fluency with core calculus skills (limits, derivatives, integrals, differential equations, sequences and series, vector functions) and varied representations.
• Track progress across sessions and adjust pacing and materials based on what's working.
• Submit a short session note after each tutoring session and flag concerns to our Director early.
• Communicate clearly and warmly with parents.
• Contribute to our team's shared practice: share what's working, ask questions, and help raise the bar.
