Job summary

The SDSU Research Foundation WIC program in Vista, CA is seeking a part-time Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to provide basic breastfeeding guidance to new mothers. The role supports improved breastfeeding rates by offering counseling and education, and by coordinating with lactation specialists when outside scope.

You will work approximately 10 hours per week at the Vista WIC Office, with an emphasis on timely outreach, documentation, and ongoing training to maintain program compliance and quality

Qualifications

• Candidate must have breastfed at least one baby.
• Willingness to attend initial and ongoing lactation training.
• Reside in California within commutable distance from SDSU at hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers.
• Contact pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by phone as scheduled.
• Document contacts accurately using Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Database and WIC WISE.
• Attend staff trainings and comply with WIC policies and competencies.
