Job summary

SDSU Research Foundation is seeking a part-time WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor for our Chula Vista location. You will provide basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers and may assist outside regular hours to address breastfeeding issues.

Responsibilities include counseling, record keeping, and coordinating with lactation staff, with ongoing training and compliance with WIC policies. Must reside in California and complete background checks.

Qualifications

• Must have breastfed at least one baby.
• Residence in California within commutable distance from SDSU.
• Background check clearance required.

Responsibilities

• Breastfeeding Counseling and Education 95%: Contacting pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by phone at specified intervals.
• Counseling her caseload of participants when they are in the office.
• Responding to internal referrals received from WIC site staff.
• Referring to the lactation specialist for breastfeeding issues outside her scope of practice.
• Keeping accurate records of all contacts made using the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Database and WIC WISE as appropriate.
