Job summary

Penquis is seeking a part-time Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) to work with children and young adults. The role focuses on hands-on skill building and community-based support, helping clients gain confidence and independence through interactive activities and outings.

We welcome candidates with flexible schedules, including students or retirees, and offer paid training for required certifications. This is a part-time, field-based opportunity in Old Town, ME with up to 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Maine driver’s license in good standing with reliable transportation and automobile insurance.
• Access to a cell phone or smartphone.
• Ability to meet Penquis background-check requirements upon hire and periodically thereafter.
• Earned paid leave.
• Paid training for required certifications, including BHP certification, First Aid/CPR, Safety Care, Trauma Informed Care, and Mandated Reporter.

Responsibilities

• Use games and activities to teach directions and healthy emotional responses.
• Use video clips and other tools to practice non-verbal communication skills.
• Support community outings that build safety skills and positive friendships.
• Teach money skills and independent community interactions during errands and outings.
• Practice meal planning and cooking skills with clients.
• Help clients learn self-soothing strategies and how to ask for help.
