Overview

The Athletics Department is accepting applications for a part-timeGameday Basketball Shot Clock Operator.

Auburn University at Montgomery reserves the right onceinterviewing has begun to stop accepting applications. Based onfunding source, applicant cannot be or become an AUM student whileworking in this position.

Pay Rate: $20.00/hour

Responsibilities

The qualified candidate selected for this position will assist inthe following capacities:

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Will serve as shot clock operator for all preseason, regularseason and postseason men's and women's basketball home contests asscheduled.
  • Will comply with all NCAA Division II and Gulf South Conferencerules, regulations and policies.
  • Will interact professionally with all officials, coaches,student-athletes, University personnel and spectators attending thegames.

Requirements:

Serve as shot-clock operator for all preseason, regular season and postseason men's and women's basketball home contests. Comply with all NCAA DII and GSC basketball rules, regulations and policies, aslisted below.

  1. Use a 30-second shot clock.
  2. Use the shot clock for the entire game, including overtime(s),except when there is less time remaining on the game clock than ina shot-clock period, in which case the shot-clock display shall notdisplay.
  3. Control a separate timing device with a horn that shall have asound that is distinct and different from that of the game-clockhorn.
  4. Have an alternate timing device available.
  5. Start the shot clock when:
    a An inbounds player legally touches the ball after the throw-inhas been released; b. A team gains initial control following a jumpball or unsuccessful try for goal; or
    c. There is a change in team control.
  6. Stop the timing device and:
    a. No reset when play is stopped under the followingcircumstances:
    1. The ball is deflected or caused to be out of bounds by adefensive player;
    2. A player is injured or loses a contact lens;
    3. A charged or electronic-media time out has concluded;
    4. During team control as defined by Rule 4-8, a defensive playercauses a held ball and the alternating-possession arrow favors theoffense;
    5. After any double personal fouls, simultaneous personal fouls, orfouls with penalties of equal gravity when there is team control,unless the penalty for the foul results in a change of teamcontrol;
    6. After an inadvertent whistle when there is team control asdefined in Rule 4-8 or following an unsuccessful try that does notstrike the ring or flange and the alternating-possession arrowfavors the shooting team;
    7. After any administrative technical foul(s) is assessed to theteam in control of the ball, or to the team entitled to the ballbefore it is at the disposal of the thrower-in, or to the benchpersonnel or followers of that team;
    8. After a simultaneous held ball as described in Rule 6-4.2 occursduring a throw-in or after an unsuccessful try that does notcontact the ring or flange and the alternating-possession arrowfavors the shooting team; and
    9. After the ball goes out of bounds and was last touchedsimultaneously by two opponents,
    both of whom are either inbounds or out of bounds, or when there isdoubt as to who last
    touched the ball.

Note: The offensive team, upon being awarded the ball for thethrow-in, shall have the unexpired time on the shot clock toattempt a try.

Reset it to 30 seconds when:
1. There is a live-ball change in team control and the ball remainslive, or following a successful goal by the opponents;
2. Team control is reestablished in the backcourt after the teamloses control of the ball;
Note 1: The mere touching of the ball by an opponent does not starta new shot-clock period when the same team remains in control ofthe ball during loose-ball situations.
Note 2: When team control is reestablished in the shooting team'sbackcourt following a try that does not strike the ring or flange,the shot clock is not reset.

A held ball occurs or inadvertent whistle occurs when there isno team control and the alternating-possession arrow favors thedefense of non-shooting team;
4. A try for goal strikes the ring or flange and the non-shootingteam is first to gain control of the ball;
5. A single personal foul is committed by the defense/non-shootingteam in the offense/shooting team’s backcourt;
6. An administrative technical foul is assessed to the defensiveteam or when neither team is in control of the ball;
7. A single player/substitute, team, or bench technical foul, asingle flagrant 1 foul, or a single flagrant 2 foul iscommitted;
8. Fouls are committed by opposing players, and one of the fouls isintentional or disqualifying.

A violation occurs, except as provided in Rules 2-11.6.a.1,2-11.6.c.2, and 2-11.6.d.5;

An inadvertent whistle occurs when there was no player or teamcontrol at the time of the whistle in the shooting team's backcourtfollowing a try that strikes the ring or flange and thealternating-possession arrow favors the shooting team.

Reset to 20 seconds or the time remaining on the shot clock,whichever is greater, when:

During team control, a single personal foul is committed by thedefensive team in the offensive team's frontcourt before the bonusis in effect;

A violation of Rule 9-6 is committed by the defense during teamcontrol or by the non-shooting team following an unsuccessful trythat does not contact the ring or flange;

Note: This rule applies only when the foul or violation occursprior to a try for goal that hits the ring or flange.

A foul is committed by the non-shooting team in the shootingteam's frontcourt during an unsuccessful field-goal attempt thatdoes not strike the ring or flange but is not committed against aplayer in the act of shooting or an airborne shooter before thebonus is in effect.

Reset to 20 seconds when the following occurs:

The shooting team is first to gain control of the ball in theirfrontcourt after an unsuccessful field-goal or free-throw attemptthat contacts the ring or flange and remains live;

A personal foul is committed by the non-shooting team beforethe bonus is in effect in
