St. John Paul II High School is seeking a certified Athletic Trainer to help develop and implement a comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program. This position will work under the direction of the athletic director to prevent, recognize, assess, manage, treat, and recondition athletic injuries and illnesses. This is a part-time position.

Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.
Responsibilities

- As an integral part of the ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic church
- Evaluates injuries occurring in school-sponsored athletic activities and initiates appropriate follow-up action; refers athletes to a physician when appropriate
- Educate coaches and student-athletes to maintain safe and appropriate practice and conditions
- Continuously grows in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent district and state-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun, heat, and cold
- Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more

- Maintains confidentiality in matters of the assigned department and the diocese

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Licensed Athletic Trainer, State of Texas
- American Heart Association First Aid/CPR Instructor Certified
- Minimum two years of relevant experience
- 3-5 years of high school experience preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures
- Valid Texas driver’s license required
- Must be at least 21 years of age

- Must have substantial knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of athletic injuries in all sports and continue to grow in knowledge through professional development
- Must have strong communication skills and work closely with student-athletes, student-trainers, coaches, parents, and administrators

- Demonstrates responsibility, competence, and enthusiasm

- Exhibits a willingness to devote necessary time outside of the school day to work with students
Position Information
- Reports to Athletic Director
- This is a part-time, exempt position
- Must successfully complete pre-employment screening, including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening
- Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required
- Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures
