Discourse Power: Speech & Debate Academy is hiring a Part-Time Asst. Debate Coach to work remotely in the 2026-2027 cycle. The role focuses on Lincoln-Douglas varsity coaching, drill design, and feedback to help students perform at state and national qualifiers.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree (or in progress) and 3–4 years of high school coaching, with a proven LD track record, strong argumentation, research, and strategic planning skills. Flexible scheduling is offered.

• Proven LD Varsity coaching with strong argumentation, research and feedback.
• Ability to plan drills, review ballots and set student development goals.

Responsibilities

• Develop lesson plans based on class level and meet weekly.
• Plan drills in small groups, review judges’ ballots and create improvement plans.
• Set goals for student development; provide case feedback, strategy building and judge adaptations.
• Coach varsity students for State and National qualifiers.
• Flexible scheduling for extra practice.

About Us

At Discourse Power, we believe in the transformative power of speech and debate. We prioritize student development. Therefore, our coaches emphasize building confidence and skills gradually through a structured curriculum, creating drills, planning practice, and providing feedback. Through our speech and debate programs, we aim to cultivate critical thinking, effective communication, and a passion for learning. Discourse Power has been operating for two years. We are now expanding our programs and hiring a Part-time Debate Coach. Our students have achieved notable success in LD debate events, reaching many late elimination rounds (middle and high school tournaments) over the last two years, reflecting our commitment to excellence and inspiring students.

Position

Part-Time Asst. Debate Coach

Position Summary

• Develop lesson plans based on class level (Varsity and Novice).
• We are looking to hire a coach who has a proven track record of coaching Lincoln-Douglas Varsity students, strong in argumentation, research, planning drills, and case feedback.
• Typical responsibilities include planning different drills in small group classes, reviewing judges’ ballots and creating improvement plans, setting goals for students’ development, strong in philosophy, topic analysis, providing case feedback to students, cross-examination strategies, key voters (including weighing), strategy building, technical skills, and teaching persuasive techniques/judges’ adaptations.
• Our varsity students will compete in State and National qualifiers.
• Our classes usually meet once a week, with extra practice before tournaments.
• We offer flexibility for scheduling extra practice.
• We prefer a coach who is also familiar with progressive debate in addition to Traditional LD debate.

Salary

Salary: $25.00 to $30.00 an hour, depending on coaching experience. Two references.
