Job summary

James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA seeks an Assistant Director of Research Development to support the Center for Civic Engagement's research and sponsored projects portfolio. The role provides strategic and operational grant development, pre‑award activities, and collaboration with Center leadership and staff.

The position is part‑time, up to 29 hours per week, with hourly pay of $30, and no benefits.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience supporting the development of grant proposals, sponsored projects, research initiatives, or related funding efforts.
Excellent written communication skills for proposals, reports, and presentations.
Strong project management and ability to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines.
Ability to collaborate with diverse partners including faculty, staff, students, and funders.

Responsibilities

Support grant development pre‑award activities and manage coordination with Center leadership and staff.
Identify funding opportunities and assist with proposal development to strengthen research capacity.
Coordinate post‑award tracking, milestones, reporting timelines, and compliance.
Mentor and advise students and faculty involved in Center‑sponsored research.
