Job summary

Palos Verdes Library District (CA) is seeking a part-time Archivist/Librarian I to join the Adult Services Department. This grant-funded position operates in the Local History Center with duties including archival processing, finding aids creation, and outreach to researchers in a diverse community.

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service, attention to detail, and experience with preservation of archival materials. Flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in information sciences or related field with professional Librarian/archival duties.
• Six months of professional archival experience in appraisal, accessioning, digitization, arrangement and description and reference services.
• Experience with archives/records management software (Archivist Toolkit, ArchivesSpace, ContentDM, Islandora) and descriptive standards.
• Valid California Class C Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Advise and assist Local History Center researchers with collection access and research guidance.
• Assist archivist in appraisal, accessioning, processing, arrangement and description, reference and outreach.
• Create preliminary finding aids for collections per national standards.
• Assist archivist on projects like oral histories, grants, digitization and uploading to digital repository.
• Monitor technological/trend shifts affecting library services and propose responses.
• Perform community outreach about Local History Center services and collections.
