Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Buffalo VA Medical Center is seeking a Biological Science Laboratory Technician (Animal) to support research activities in the Office of Research and Development.

This part-time position (20 hours per week) requires residence within commuting distance of Buffalo or willingness to relocate; qualifying experience includes GS-6 level experience or graduate study with relevant coursework. Transcripts must be submitted with your application.

Qualifications

• One full year of specialized experience at GS-6 level in the Federal Service.
• Experience related to Biological Science Laboratory Technician (Animal) duties.
• New York State Veterinary Technician License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares research samples, slides, smears, and diagnostic reagents.
• Collects and examines animal cells, fluids, and tissue using autopsy and pathology methods.
• Observes physiological and behavioral effects of drugs on laboratory animals.
• Maintains complete records of procedures and test results.
• Maintains laboratory facilities, equipment, and supplies.
• Ensures laboratory cleanliness and safety.
• Maintains animal safety and care.
• The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be prorated based on hours worked.
