A leading medical research organization located in Buffalo, New York is seeking a Veterinary Medical Consultant. The ideal candidate will provide program oversight and veterinary clinical support, primarily ensuring compliance with animal welfare laws and regulations. This is a backup position for the primary veterinarian, compensating based on visit frequency. Strong experience and training in laboratory animal science and medicine are required.

Responsibilities

• Direct the operation of the animal facility to ensure compliance with current animal welfare laws, regulations, and policies.
• Support Research and Development (R&D) programs using animal subjects.
• On-call coverage to support the primary veterinarian when unavailable.

Job description

This position is at VA WNY Healthcare system but is posted and employed through Buffalo Institute for Medical Research.

Salary is based on payment per visit and this position is as a back up to the primary veterinarian currently at the facility for coverage when they are not available.
