Job summary

The Town of Edgartown is seeking an Assistant Animal Control Officer/Inspector to assist in operations related to animal control and welfare. This 16-hour-per-two-weeks, part-time role involves responding to calls about loose or injured animals, conducting barn and livestock inspections, and enforcing regulations.

Candidate must hold Animal Control Officer certification and a valid driver’s license. Training and professional development opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• High School diploma and one year of experience with domestic animals and wildlife.
• Certification as an Animal Control Officer.
• Driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Investigate barking dogs, animal bites, cruelty, and nuisance complaints.
• Enforce state laws and local by-laws; attend hearings when needed.
• Provide public information on wildlife issues and regulations.
• Maintain kennel, care for animals, and arrange adoption or euthanasia as needed.
• Respond to calls regarding loose animals and transport to a vet as required.
• Perform routine barn inspections and document disease and quarantine records.
