The Town is seeking a dependable and flexible individual to serve as an On-Call Animal Control Officer. This position will provide coverage and respond to animal-related emergencies during evenings, weekends, holidays, and periods when the primary Animal Control Officer is on vacation or otherwise out of the office. The position requires a willingness to work irregular hours and respond to on-call situations as needed.

Responsibilities include enforcing applicable local and state animal control laws and regulations, responding to animal-related emergencies, and supporting the Animal Control Officer with various animal control activities.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of animal care experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Valid Massachusetts Class D driver's license.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of record keeping.
  • Successful completion of a CORI check and drug screening.
Physical Requirements:

The position requires the ability to perform physical activities including stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, and repetitive motions. This is a heavy work position requiring the ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee may be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, varying temperatures, chemicals, and zoonotic diseases.

Special Qualifications & Training:
  • Massachusetts License to Carry (LTC) firearms permit is preferred but not required.
  • Completion of 30 Education Credits (ECs) during the first year.
  • Completion of Core Competencies Training upon hire or within the first year of employment.
  • Completion of required continuing education credits while appointed as an Animal Control Officer.
Wage:

$56.52 per assignment, with annual increases. This is a non-benefitted position.
