Job summary

AmHyTech is seeking a part-time Electrochemical R&D Engineer in Detroit, MI to advance ammonia electrolysis and hydrogen production research. The role covers catalyst development, electrode fabrication, and cell stack engineering, with hands-on design and bench-scale experiments.

You will work on electrocatalysts, membranes, and system optimization, translating lab results into scalable engineering improvements in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in chemical/ electrochemical engineering or related field.
• Strong electrochemistry and electrocatalysis knowledge.
• Hands-on bench-scale electrochemical experimentation.
• Experience with CV, LSV, EIS, chronoamperometry.
• Familiarity with electrochemical cell design, testing, optimization.
• Independently develop experimental plans and troubleshoot lab systems.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills for a startup.

Responsibilities

• Design, synthesize, and optimize electrocatalysts for AOR and HER.
• Develop and test electrodes via electrodeposition, hydrothermal synthesis.
• Design and run bench-scale electrochemical experiments and analyses.
• Evaluate membranes, separators, and electrode configurations.
• Build and improve cells, bipolar plates, flow fields, stacks.
• Create experimental plans and analyze performance data.
• Support IP, publications, and grant proposals.
• Maintain safe lab practices and meticulous documentation.
