Job summary

Lancaster County Parks and Recreation is seeking Part‑Time After‑School Counselors to supervise and engage with children in grades K‑5 during the after‑school program at multiple recreation centers. You will guide activities, help with homework, lead games and crafts, and serve snacks in a safe, welcoming environment.

Responsibilities include supervising activities, maintaining safety, communicating with parents and staff, and assisting during extended hours for special events and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 months to 1 year of experience working with children ages 5–11 in a structured setting.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must possess strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Must hold a valid South Carolina driver’s license and have reliable transportation.
• Ability to actively participate in recreational activities and games.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and have a positive attitude.

• Report any incidents, concerns, or issues to the Recreation Coordinator in a timely manner.
• Assist with extended hours during school closings, special events, early dismissals, holidays, field trips, and other camps as needed.

The role involves guiding children through daily activities, assisting with homework, facilitating games and crafts, serving snacks, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise children in grades K‑5 in a safe, structured environment.

Work Schedule

• Standard Hours: Monday through Friday, 1:30 PM – 6:00 PM
• Extended Hours: May vary during school closings, teacher workdays, special events, and center weekend programs

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 3 months to 1 year of experience working with children ages 5–11 in a structured setting (school, camp, childcare, recreation, etc.).
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must possess strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to actively participate in recreational activities and games.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, including playgrounds, gymnasiums, and activity rooms.
• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., bend, run, walk, and engage in physical activity for extended periods.
• May be exposed to varying weather conditions during outdoor play.
