Job summary

Town of Southern Pines Parks & Recreation Department is seeking an after school counselor. You will supervise children at the Recreation Center and playground, communicate with kids, parents, and staff, and assist with homework and tutoring.

Maintain program discipline by enforcing rules and procedures, and help plan activities with a focus on safety and engagement. Applicants must be 16 or older; CPR & First Aid certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years or older.
• Preferred CPR & First Aid Certified.

Responsibilities

• Supervise kids at Recreation Center and playground.
• Ability to communicate with kids, parents, and co-workers.
• Ability to assist with daily homework and tutoring.
• Ability to enforce policies, rules, and regulations.
• Create and oversee tasks required to complete job.
• Complete proper paperwork with kids and/or parents.
• Fill in for other staff as needed to ensure smooth operations.
• Bring creative twists and fresh ideas to programming.
• Willingness to learn about various recreation topics, new games, new crafts, etc.
• Actively participate in all trainings as participant in order to learn responsibilities and expectations for staff role.
• Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergencies.
• Provide leadership in cases of urgency or emergency in alignment with emergency procedures.
