Job summary

Brooklyn Community Services is seeking an Assistant Teacher - Floater for Spring Creek to support after-school learning, from 2:45 pm to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The role is fully in-person at Academy for Young Writers and Spring Creek Community School, with a $20/hour pay rate and holiday camp days when DOE is closed.

The Assistant Teacher will run enrichment activities for about 20 students daily, collaborate with lead teachers, and communicate with families while helping with lesson

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required. Some college preferred.
• Experience working with youth in afterschool or summer programs.
• Must be flexible to cover across all afterschool programs.
• Must pass a background check with NYC/NYS Department of Health and NYC Department of Education.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom support including substitute coverage and behavioral support.
• Assist with hands-on multisensory lessons aligned to thematic curriculum.
• Submit lesson plans for approval on schedule.
• Plan lessons with lead teacher for field trips and supervise students.
• Participate in professional development trainings as required.
• Use creative teaching strategies to enhance literacy and social-emotional skills.
• Assist with culminating event presentations showcasing learning.
• Engage with parents and families as required by site director.
• Supervise 20 students during activities and transitions.
• Monitor authorized parent/guardian pick-up of children.
• Prepare activities and materials for daily schedule.
• Participate in agency-wide groups and meetings.
• Assist with development of funding proposals as needed.
• Other tasks as required.
