Job summary

Rutgers University-Newark is seeking part-time instructors for the Spring 2027 term in Africana Studies to teach surveys or upper-level courses. Faculty will prepare course materials, post syllabi, present content during scheduled class times, and maintain office hours to assist students.

Assignments may occur day, evening, weekend, online, hybrid, or remotely according to department needs. A bachelor’s in African American or African studies is required; graduate degrees preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in African American or African studies required.
• Master’s degree, Ph.D., or other terminal degree strongly preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills a must.
• Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level is highly desired.

Responsibilities

• Teach African American and African studies surveys or upper-level courses as assigned.
• Prepare course materials and Post a course syllabus.
• Deliver lectures, hold office hours, and provide out-of-class time for students.
• Respond to student emails and conduct and grade assessments in a timely manner, submitting final grades.
