Position Summary:

The Benefit Assistance Specialist provides information and assistance to older adults and adults with a disability regarding public and private benefits including but not limited to Medicaid, Foodshare, Social Security, Medicare and private insurance. The position works closely with internal teams and community partners to foster collaborative relationships ensuring proper referrals and effective support for individuals. The position is based at the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Central Wisconsin-Wausau Office. Occasional travel throughout the ADRC-CW service region for meetings

Examples of Work Performed:
  • Provide accurate information to individuals regarding public and private benefits.
  • Assist individuals to access benefits to meet their needs.
  • Facilitates internal referrals to benefit specialists teams.
  • Complete required documentation in program databases.
  • Refer customers to other agencies and services when appropriate.
  • Provide follow up to customers to determine the outcome of referrals.
  • Complete outreach to target populations and communities.
  • Enhance professional skills and knowledge through continuing education and training.
  • Participates in agency committees and community groups.
  • Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of and experience with public benefits and community resources.
  • Ability to work effectively with older adults and adults with a disability
  • Ability to conduct assessments of customer needs through telephone or in person interviews
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and foster collaborative relationships with community partners.
  • Ability to communicate detailed and complex information to individuals and groups.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork timely and accurately.
  • Ability to adhere to program and position standards
  • Ability to research, analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ability to listen and respond in a non-bias and respectful manner

Compensation:

Starting Hourly Rate: $29.53 + Limited Marathon County benefits
