The Covenant School, an independent Christian Liberal Arts & Sciences school in Charlottesville, Virginia, is seeking a dedicated educator to serve as a part-time Academic Support Coach for grades 9-12. Serving more than 750 students from Pre-K through Grade 12, our school is a gospel-centered community of faith and learning committed to the formation of the whole person through a rich and humane education. Faculty at The Covenant School understand teaching as a Christian vocation. They take personal responsibility for students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth and work together to cultivate a community of scholars in which students are known, challenged, and formed in habits of thought and character for lives of faithful service.

Position Overview

The Academic Support Coach works directly with students in the Upper School to strengthen executive functioning skills and develop the habits necessary for successful, increasingly independent learning. Working under the direction of the Academic Support Coordinator, the coach supports a designated caseload of students and collaborates with teachers and families to promote student growth. The coach also partners with teachers to identify effective classroom strategies that support students’ executive functioning and academic success.

The goal is not simply to help students manage immediate academic challenges, but to cultivate the skills, habits, and confidence necessary to take increasing responsibility for their own learning.

We are seeking an educator who enjoys working with adolescents and brings patience, sound judgment, and relational wisdom to this work. The ideal candidate provides appropriate structure and accountability while fostering student independence, perseverance, and self-discipline. In keeping with the school’s mission, the Academic Support Coach approaches each student with dignity and care, supporting their intellectual and personal formation.
