Job summary

AAA Central Penn is seeking a part-time Driving School Instructor in Lancaster, PA to conduct behind-the-wheel sessions and administer the PA driver’s license exam. You will mentor teen drivers and others, with availability during evenings and weekends to fit school schedules.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, five years of driving experience with at least 15,000 miles, a PA driver’s license, knowledge of PA traffic laws, and the ability to obtain a Private Driver Training

• At least 5 years of driving experience and 15,000 miles.
• Knowledge of PA traffic laws and PennDOT licensing exam requirements.
• Ability to obtain Private Driver Training School Teacher Certificate within 3 months.

Responsibilities

Learning to drive is an important milestone. As a part-time Driving School Instructor, you will do more than teach the rules of the road. You will help students develop the confidence, judgment, and safe driving habits they need to protect themselves, their passengers, and others in the community. This position also administers the driver's license exam.

You will primarily work with teenage, first-time drivers, while also supporting some experienced and mature drivers. Through patient instruction, constructive feedback, and hands-on guidance, you will create a positive learning environment where each student can grow into a safer and more responsible driver.

This position does require availability during the evenings and weekends to provide driver training and administer the driver's license exam.

What You’ll Do

• Provide high-quality behind-the-wheel instruction in AAA training vehicles.
• Administer the Pennsylvania Driver's License Exam.
• Explain safe driving techniques and the proper mechanical operation of a vehicle.
• Help students practice driving in city, rural, and highway environments.
• Evaluate driving habits, reactions, parking skills, and overall vehicle control.
• Teach Pennsylvania traffic laws, motor vehicle regulations, and safe driving practices.
• Provide classroom instruction to novice and experienced drivers.
• Assess the in-car driving skills of experienced drivers.
• Communicate with students and customers by phone and email.
• Schedule lessons, process payments, complete required documentation, and meet established deadlines.
• Represent AAA Driving School at schools and community events.

What You’ll Bring

• A high school diploma or GED.
• A current Pennsylvania driver’s license with no moving violations during the previous three years.
• At least five years of driving experience and a minimum of 15,000 miles driven.
• Knowledge of Pennsylvania traffic laws and PennDOT licensing examination requirements.
• The ability to remain calm, attentive, and safety-focused in changing driving conditions.
• A positive and patient approach when working with students at different skill levels.
• Strong verbal, written, organizational, and customer service skills.
• Comfort using phones, computers, projectors, televisions, and other technology.
• The ability to present driving-related information to individuals and groups.
• A Private Driver Training School Teacher Certificate, or the ability to obtain one within three months of hire.

Candidates must also be able to:

• Pass a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.
• Pass state and federal criminal background checks.
• Safely monitor students while teaching from the passenger seat.
• React quickly when necessary, including applying the instructor brake or taking control of the steering wheel.
• Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
• Work in environments that may include occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
