Qualifications

  • Must reside in St. Clair County or relocate within 6 months.
  • Bondable and subject to background investigation with no serious misdemeanors or felonies.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • US citizen and resident of St. Clair County (or residency within 6 months).
  • Reports to Telecommunications Supervisor(s).
  • High school education or equivalent with preferred post-secondary education.

Responsibilities

  • Relief or provide relief for telecommunicators to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Document equipment failures in writing to Supervisors.
  • Coordinate activities between telecommunicators.
  • Attend and pass required classes.
  • Operate Warrant Computer (Entry, Modification, Cancellation, Inquiry).
  • Use CAD and LEADS systems as required.
  • Manage Severe Weather Operations and Activation as needed.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly radio tests.
  • Maintain all telephone and radio frequencies.
  • Type more than 35 words per minute.

Job description

  • This is a position involving substantial responsibility. This position may be filled by an employee who has demonstrated knowledge and skill sufficient to perform duties with little or no supervision.
  • Position is part time and may require special activities and unscheduled duties and responsibilities.
  • Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation to report to work on short notice.
  • Must be bondable, subject to successful completion of a thorough background investigation. No serious misdemeanors or any felony convictions. Three professional and three personal references will be required.
  • Must live within St. Clair County or be willing to relocate within 6 months of hire.
  • Considerable ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to perform under stress; successfully maintain strictest degree of confidentiality; strong working knowledge of 9-1-1 policies and procedures as outlined by the St. Clair County Emergency Telephone Systems Board; typing ability is required.
  • US citizen and a resident of St. Clair County, or residency established within the first six (6) months after hire.
  • High school education or equivalent with a preference of post-secondary education.
  • Reports to the Telecommunications Supervisor(s).
  • This not a collective bargaining agreement (union) position
  • In addition to performing the basic telecommunicator duties and possessing qualifications for this position, the employee will also be responsible for:
    1. Relief or providing relief for telecommunicators and assuring the continuity of operations and service to the public and agencies to whom we serve.
    2. All equipment necessary for performing the functions of their job, to include documenting in writing to the Telecommunicator Supervisor(s) and equipment failure or malfunction.
    3. Coordination of activities between fellow telecommunicators
    4. Attending and passing all required classes
    5. Warrant Computer (ICJ)

    7. Severe Weather Operations / Activation
