Job summary

Lavender Bakery & Cafe on Solano Ave in Berkeley is hiring experienced Sales & Barista L2 staff to be the face of the neighborhood bakery. You will make espresso drinks, manage custom cake pickups, take phone and online orders, and energize the front counter.

You will welcome customers, handle in-store and online orders, run the register, and help train newer baristas. The role is part-time with opportunities for growth into shift lead roles.

Qualifications

• Food business experience required (restaurant, cafe, bakery, or coffee shop).
• Espresso skills: can pull a shot and steam milk.
• Weekend availability required.
• Available for 70% of major holidays.
• Spanish or French language ability is a plus.
• Familiarity with Square POS.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers at the front counter and outdoor seating area.

Job description

Lavender Bakery & Cafe on Solano Ave is hiring experienced Sales & Barista L2 staff. You'll be the face of Berkeley's neighborhood bakery favorite — making espresso drinks, taking custom cake pickups, handling phone and online orders, and bringing energy to the front counter.

What you'll do

• Welcome customers at the front counter and outdoor seating area
• Take in-store orders for coffee, pastries, store cakes (daily display) and custom cake pickups (pre-orders)
• Handle phone orders and online pre-order pickup
• Multi-task confidently: in-store, phone, and online orders happening at once
• Run the register, manage queues during morning rushes
• Verify custom cake orders before customer pickup
• Train and support newer baristas during your shifts

What we need from you (required)

• Food business experience required (restaurant, cafe, bakery, coffee shop — at least 1 year)
• Espresso skills (can pull a shot, steam milk)
• Weekend availability required (when needed)
• Available for 70% of major holidays — teamwork to ensure store stays open on busy days (we work together to share holidays — you'll get some off, not all)
• Recommended commute: within ~12 miles or 25 minutes of Berkeley — reliable transportation for early shifts
• Experience at a famous bakery or cafe brand
• Spanish or French language
• Familiarity with Square POS
