Job summary

Lewis University in Romeoville, IL seeks a FAA-certified Flight Instructor (CFI/CFII) to support university aviation programs. You will conduct stage checks, evaluate student performance, and ensure compliance with FAA Part 141 and ACS standards.

You will document evaluations, collaborate with instructors, and participate in safety and curriculum initiatives to uphold high training quality.

Qualifications

• FAA CFI/CFII with current certifications and endorsements.
• Current FAA medical certificate (minimum 3rd class).
• Meet experience requirements of 14 CFR § 141.37 and authorized to conduct checks.
• Strong understanding of FAA Part 141 requirements and ACS.
• Excellent communication, evaluation, and instructional skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in aviation or related field.

Responsibilities

• Model the University Mission through performance and service.
• Conduct Part 141 stage checks and flight evaluations for Private, Instrument, Commercial, and CFIs.
• Conduct proficiency flight evaluations for CFIs.
• Evaluate student performance against ACS and school standards.
• Prepare detailed evaluation reports with deficiencies and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with flight instructors to provide feedback.
• Ensure all flight and ground operations comply with FAA regulations and safety standards.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FAA regs, manuals, and materials.
• Participate in standardization meetings, instructor training, and safety programs.
• Serve as SME for flight training practices and regulatory compliance.
• Support Chief and Assistant Chief Instructors with quality assurance and curriculum review.
• Other duties assigned by management.
