Job summary

UnCommon Law in Oakland, CA is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide legal services across parole hearings, habeas and related workshops. This exempt role offers $84,000 to $100,800+ depending on experience, with a hybrid work model and Spring 2027 start.

You will manage caseloads, represent clients at parole hearings, edit legal documents, and participate in ongoing trainings and Home After Harm initiatives. Must hold a J.D. and be admitted to the CA Bar; bilingual Spanish a plus.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree and active CA Bar in good standing.
• 0–6+ years of attorney experience.
• Experience with incarcerated clients preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage caseload for parole hearings.
• Direct representation and advocacy in parole processes.
• Draft legal documents to Board of Parole Hearings or Corrections.
• Participate in trainings and workshops.
• Collaborate on Home After Harm initiatives.
