Job summary

The Prison Law Office is seeking Staff or Senior Staff Attorneys to lead civil rights litigation protecting incarcerated people. The role requires 3+ years of experience, strong legal judgment, and client-centered advocacy, with regular travel to facilities.

Hybrid work in Berkeley with in-office attendance at least two days per full week, including Wednesdays. Senior Staff Attorney duties involve high-impact litigation, strategy development, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• At least three years of experience as a practicing attorney.
• Experience in developing and litigating complex civil cases.
• Admission to the California Bar or eligibility to sit for the Bar.
• Preference for bilingual Spanish language skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead individual and class action litigation from case development through resolution.
• Monitor and enforce remedial court orders and decrees in long-running cases.
• Supervise staff attorneys, fellows, interns, and paraprofessionals.
• Coordinate with co-counsel and partner organizations on strategy.
