Job summary

The City of Decatur is seeking a Parks Maintenance Associate to keep parks, athletic fields and recreation facilities safe, clean, and welcoming for residents and visitors in Decatur, Alabama. You will care for turf, landscaping, and facilities, and support tournaments, events, and community programs.

Responsibilities include maintaining grounds, preparing fields, trimming plants, and assisting with maintenance and repairs of tools and irrigation systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years related maintenance experience.
• Valid Alabama driver's license or ability to obtain.
• Knowledge of parks and grounds maintenance.
• Knowledge of athletic field maintenance.
• Ability to operate hand and power tools.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists in maintaining city parks, athletic fields and facilities.
• Installs and maintains landscaping; prepares fields for play.
• Removes litter and debris; empties trash receptacles.
• Assists in preparation for tournaments, events, and programs.
• Trims and cares for trees, bushes, and plants.
• Inspects playgrounds and reports maintenance needs.
• Assists in repair and maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Performs minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Assists with irrigation system repairs.
