Job summary

The City of Columbia seeks a seasoned parks and recreation leader to plan, direct, and participate in the development, construction and upkeep of City parks and facilities. You will report to executive-level administration and translate programs into actionable plans, budgets and contracts.

In this role you will supervise staff, coordinate projects with consultants and contractors, ensure safety and compliance, and help meet community recreation needs through strategic planning and effective

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in parks and recreation or related field.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in park and recreation management.
• Valid South Carolina Class D Driver’s License.
• Strong knowledge of park planning, design, and regulatory codes.
• Ability to manage budgets and contracts.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs and participates in development, construction and maintenance of City parks and recreational facilities.
• Supervises division staff and manages performance standards.
• Reviews subordinates’ work and provides training and guidance.
• Ensures compliance with department policies, safety standards and applicable laws.
• Prepares operating and construction budgets and related records.
• Coordinates design and construction of park facilities and land acquisitions; manages bids and contracts.
• Inspects grounds and facilities for safety; ensures staff and public safety.
• Attends meetings and training to maintain job knowledge.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
